No Eggs yet.... I haven't seen them mate. My guess is that they have already mated because the female is spending a lot of time in the nest box. Another indication that eggs are on their way is that her droppings are getting much larger and she has a bulging visible vent. From all the times that I have paired my budgies I have always looked for these key points. A lot of times you will not see your budgies mate because they either mate first thing in the morning. Since my budgies are kept outdoors in the aviary I often don't see them mate. On another note my baby budgies from another pair just left the nest. They are still learning how to perch but they are doing fine. The video below shows both budgies. I love that one is a grey opaline.

This video was taken a day after I had setup the budgies for breeding. They seemed very compatible from the beginning. I find it if you condition your birds it is easier for your budgies to be ready. As you can see the male tries to get the females attention and brings attention to the nest box by tapping its beak against the perches and wood. The female finally goes in the nest box and starts to remove the wood shavings and bedding I placed inside the nest box. This is a very good sign. It means that she is willing to begin a family and start the breeding process. She will start biting the entrance whole. This is standard procedure for females. All of my females have done this prior to mating. As of today I see a lot of courting and have yet to see the pair mating. I will be defenetly update my blog regularly so please check back.

Hi guys today I will start blogging about my English Budgie Breeding Journal that I started to keep and record on January 24, 2012. (see video below). I set this pair of Budgies that are more than a year old on the morning of January 24, 2012. My setup consists of; 1. Breeding Cage that is at least 24"X 16"X 16" 2. Cuttlebone 3. Vitamin Block 4. Iodine Drops in Water 5. Good Seed and Pellet diet 6. Conditioning Supplement (Kaytee or Petamine) 7. Sturdy Perches 8. A Nest Box for English Budgies 9. Water 10.Wood or Organic Bedding (no dyes) 11.Charcoal 12.UV Full Spectrum Light (if breeding indoor0 Prior to setting them up I conditioned the pair by providing them with a good balanced seed diet and a few drops of iodine in the water. I made sure that they had the conditioning supplement in their seed or pellets daily. I conditioned them for about 2 weeks. I haven't posted here in years but it is about time I start blogging again. I really love to write about budgies. I currently have a youtube channel called Allaboutbudgies I post everything my budgies do. At the moment I am keeping a breeding journal. When I started this blog I kept and bred the standard pet budgie or parakeet but now I keep and breed the English or Show budgie. I love them both and I think they make great pets.

This video describes the basic method I use for breeding my birds. I've had great success at breeding budgies and I currently breed the Show type also known as English Budgies.
