Observations on Breeding Pair
No Eggs yet.... I haven't seen them mate. My guess is that they have already mated because the female is spending a lot of time in the nest box. Another indication that eggs are on their way is that her droppings are getting much larger and she has a bulging visible vent. From all the times that I have paired my budgies I have always looked for these key points. A lot of times you will not see your budgies mate because they either mate first thing in the morning. Since my budgies are kept outdoors in the aviary I often don't see them mate.
On another note my baby budgies from another pair just left the nest. They are still learning how to perch but they are doing fine. The video below shows both budgies. I love that one is a grey opaline.

Thank you for all this valuable information! I loved Budgies for over 50 years. I recently rescued a pair that someone owned for 2 years. They've been with me now for 3 years. Lo and behold on Dec. 26, 2011. They laid 6 eggs (with in a week). The mom didn't take care of any of them except for one but then she lost interest in that one too. Now since the beginning of March she has laid 3 eggs and is diligently working on hatching them. My question will her work be for nothing? Is she too old? Your breeding cage looks great - mine? I wasn't even prepared for any little birds. No nest because I actually thought the mom was sick and preparing to die.
